Day 2 – Installing Plumbing and Electrical Chases

During day 2, the crew installs the plumbing for the pool, the skimmer, and the electrical chases for the pool lighting. The materials are placed into the trench that was dug in day 1. Relative to other activities, day 2 is fairly easy.

The pool piping is sealed and pressurized. A pressure gauge is installed to verify that the piping is sealed throughout the system. With me being the data dork that I am, I have been periodically checking the pressure and it has been holding steady for a couple of weeks now. That verifies that good piping connections were made and the system is sealed. This is an important step because you do not want to have a leaky system!

The PVC pipes are heated by a propane torch to form the curvature needed in a pool like this. Practice and honed skills are needed to do this right. Inexperienced workers could cause damage to the piping.

The slideshow below documents the activities from day 2.
