Introduction

I am not a diabetic, and I have no idea what it is like to live with the condition.  However, I have recently learned a lot about living with diabetes from a person that I really admire. His name is James.

Background

There are times in your life when something happens and you instinctively know that you have to react to those circumstances. This is one of those times.

I have a friend that I have never met in person. I have only met him by reading his writing and studying his work. I live in the US and he lives in the London area. Otherwise, I’d be hanging out with him all that I could.

When I read his work or study his problem-solving approaches, the brilliant musical work of the late, great Gerry Rafferty begins playing in my mind. I can’t explain why it happens except to say that James’ work is smooth, mellow and just makes perfect sense to me. James is a master problem-solver with the ability to clearly explain complicated topics just like Rafferty could produce music for the ages.

James and I have some things in common, such as a love of computer programming, solving mathematical problems and using a tool called Alteryx. This story is not about those shared skills, however.

This story is about how one person can have the courage to share his book of life in a deeply personal way such that it has the potential to positively impact a vast number of people. James has laid that groundwork by writing an article he recently published.

Living With Type 1 Diabetes

I know how difficult it is to write articles that are personal. They make you squirm as you are typing them. They make chills run up and down your spine as you get ready to hit the publish button. For me, I get the shakes, butterflies form in my stomach and my knees vibrate from side to side. I second-guess and triple-guess the decisions I made that lead me to the point of writing the article. I don’t know if James feels the same way, but I can imagine that when he wrote the article I am about to point you to, he might have gotten a case of the willies.

If you know anyone that lives with Type 1 Diabetes, it is your duty to get them to read this article and any subsequent articles that James might write. Also, be on the lookout for some awesome tools/techniques that James might develop. I can tell you that he is supremely talented and will deliver some useful insights.

Thanks for reading!
